Caesar - 1999 Inductee

EDMONTON, ALBERTA

Caesar, a six-year-old Rottweiler owned by Constable Randy Goss died during an attempt to apprehend a gunman who was threatening violence while heading towards a schoolyard full of children. Caesar, Constable Goss, and 20 other police officers arrived at the scene and an order was given to Constable Godd and Caesar to apprehend the gunman immediately. The gunman shot Caesar as the dog was running toward him. As the gunman turned to shoot Constable Goss, another officer on the scene shot a bullet into the distraught man's leg. Caesar was then rushed to the hospital but they were unable to save him.
